The Duke and Me in Waikiki

Star

Isn’t this cute?  You may see lots of these in my travels with friends and family – Fermin and I can’t make a five point star all by ourselves – and then again, he may not want to.

A FAWFermin after Sunday Morning Church Service

We had a terrific two weeks in Hawaii.  Yes, it was all pleasure, even though my husband always mixes business with pleasure.  It’s OK with me because “business” means “ministry”.  We have never, never had just a vacation.   It relaxes him, I think it would drive him bunkers not to work for any extended amount of time.  Just being in Hawaii it relaxes him, maybe because he comes from a place that reminds him of this beautiful tropical place.   He would sit on the balcony with his computer and phone, make calls, answer e-mails, etc.  He met with some pastors, the State Executive Director from Hawaii, and preached at a local church.  That is my husband and I love him because of who he is!!!

Erika & Nancy

Happy Birthday Little Sister.  I know you are taller than me, but you are still my little sister.

You are strong, even when you think you are not, you are wise even when you are unsure of the right answer.  You know where to go for strength and wisdom.  Erika and Rodger are so blessed to have you as their mom.  May God continue to bless you as you continue to seek His counsel.

I love you 8)

Sunset

Sunset in Waikiki

Sunday afternoon we met the Rolfs.  David and Sheri always plan a wonderful day for us.  We started the afternoon by stopping at the world famous Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Waikiki.  That hotel is so full of Hawaiian history, not to mention it is one of the most beautiful hotels in the area.

On our way to Diamond Head we stopped and gazed at the surfers below wind surfing. They reminded me of butterflies, just playing in the wind over the ocean.

I’m going to climb Diamond Head.  I have been to this island so many times and I have yet to climb it.

Later on we headed to visit Byodo-In Buddhist Temple.  It’s a beautiful Japanese architecture and I understand it has come out in quite a few movies.  I got to feed the fish, turtles and birds came to eat out of my hands!!!

We picked up our dinner and took it to a pick nick table in Waikiki Beach.  What a beautiful afternoon.  Right after we had dinner, we witnessed one of the most beautiful sunsets I ever seen.  Thank you Lord for friends and this beautiful place you have created.

Someone asked: How do you take a beautiful Sunset Picture? and the answer was:  First you start with a beautiful sunset and then the rest is easy.  I understand, just look at the picture above.

Tea

Every time I brew a cup of tea, I think of what Eleanor Roosevelt said, “Women are like tea bags. Put them in hot water and their true strength emerges.”

When the tea bag is sitting on the shelf, in its colorful box, carefully wrapped in a protective shield, it stays nice and fresh. We’re like that too. When we’re wrapped up in our peaceful lifestyle, and everything is going well, we feel nice and secure.

Like individuals, every tea has a different personality. There are also different grades of teas, from premium to low grade, just as there are different levels of faith. Like people, some teas are strong and full of flavor, and some are very aromatic, but without much substance. There are teas known for their calming, soothing effect, and teas that give strength and energy. Some of the weaker teas are tasteless, and just grow lukewarm as they steep.

But what happens when we are yanked out of our comfort zone? Like a tea bag that is unwrapped and plunked into a cup of hot water, we can find ourselves plunked into a cup of trouble. Now the real test begins. What will emerge as the hot water uncurls the little dried tea leaves? What level of strength emerges from us as we are steeped in difficulty?

Just as a tea bag hangs from a string tag, we too have a lifeline to which we can hold: Jesus. As we hold on to Him, we feel His peace emerge, and He flavors our troubled waters. His power and energy moves through our situations, changing our despair to hope through faith in His promises. And as we trust Jesus, He becomes the flavorful strength that anchors our souls, and we become the tag that is lifted and draped securely outside the cup of hot water.

The lift we get from a cup of tea lasts only a short time, but the lift we get from Jesus is long lasting. In fact, it will take us all the way to heaven!

I got this from my new facebook friend Debbie Hammond.  I don’t know who Maxine is, but I think she is a very wise woman.
