Our yearly Minister Wives Retreat at Jenness Park went as planned.  This is a time many of us use to renew our minds and refresh our spirits.

Ann Iorg did a fantastic job leading this effort.  Noemi Vera did the same with the Spanish Speaking Ministers Wives.  Thank You ladies for an awesome job – your love for ministry was apparent.

My friend Connie Cavanaugh, from Montreal, Canada was our speaker. Lydiette Henri, from La Chorrera, Republic of Panama was the speaker for the Spanish speaking group.  They both spoke from their hearts and their experiences.  The Spanish speaking ladies had a great time with Lydiette.  Connie had us laughing with her stories and at the same time she was able to speak to the needs of so many of our pastors wives.  Her book “From Faking it to Finding Grace” is a must read for every pastor’s wife.

The staff at Jenness Park did their usual, they spoiled us with their tender loving care towards us.  Thank you Jenness Park for your ministry to Pastors  Wives.❤

Rhonda Johnston, wife of Rich Johnston,  Associational Director for Mid-Valley So. Bapt. Association, will be leading us organizing this ministry for next year.  Let’s keep Rhonda and the council of women in prayer.  The dates for the 2011 Minister Wives Retreat is May 20-22.  Hope to see many of you there.

On Target Evangelism Conference – Torrence, CA

I had not been able to attend the last couple of year’s the On Target Evangelism Conferences and by judging from this year’s conference, I have been missing a lot.  Randy McWorter together with Tim Gentry and the rest of their team bring in some very brilliant people like Linda J. Miller, Director of Coaching Services for The Ken Blanchard Company.  She spoke on coaching: A new model for evangelism and discipleship, at the workplace, with your family or in your ministry.  I went out and bought two of her books, one for me and the other to give away.  Her book is: “Coaching for Christian Leaders – A Practical Guide” Fantastic seminar!

Among the other conference leaders, there was David Platt, Pastor of The Church at Brook Hills, Birmingham, AL. What can I say about David.  David was one of my “Mission Friends”(way back in the early 1980′s) and to see him all grown up, married to beautiful sweet Heather, Pastor of one very influential church in Birmingham, AL., but most of all – with a heart that is bigger than his chest can hold.  He communicated his love to disciple one on one and the people just loved him.  These are just two of the conference leaders.

Jenness Park

I knew Jenness Park is open to whoever wants to rent it, whether it is one person, a family or a church group.  Last week end I heard so many stories of families that had taken the opportunity this place has to offer.

While I was there for the Ministers’ Wives Retreat I saw all the wonderful improvements they have made.  It was great before, but now is even better.

Friday – The Day Before Graduation

The day before graduation, Jane Ellis (First Lady of CBU), got some of us (trustees’ spouses) together and we went to the Univeristy of California, Riverside Botanic Gardens.  It was a beautiful overcast day.  

   

Lilacs and Iris.  Never seen a Lilac Plant before until Friday, the plant had a cluster of flowers and the scent was wonderful.

  

Don’t ask me what kind of plants these are.

The garden is huge, it covers 40 acres.  Beside plants, they also have bobcats and lizards and all kinds of insects, Oh My!  We saw many, many lizards and some insects, but thank goodnes no bobcats were in sight.

Executive Director’s Message

My husband preached Tuesday night.  It was an amazing sermon.  Noise, there is noise everywhere, and people are not focused because we are listening to the noise around us.  We are afraid, angry, confused.  We listened to a lot of lies about both presidential candidate.  I received e-mails that said “this person worked with this person, so he knows…. ” and people were forwarding those e-mail to so many people without checking them out first.  Noise!

Ministers’ Wives Luncheon 2008

Tuesday afternoon we had our yearly Ministers’ Wives Luncheon.  I started having this luncheon soon after we arrived in California.  Most of the time we have a speaker talk to us and this year we had Cindi McMenamin.  Cindi talked to us about “Our Incredible Calling”.  She is a pastor’s wife, an award winning writer and speaker.  I am so happy to tell you that Cindi will also be our conference leader for the Ministers’ Wives Retreat, May 15-17, 2009 at Jenness Park.  Our very own Kristi Foss, which just happens to be Cindi’s sister, will be our worship leader for the retreat.  Kristi is a singer, songwriter and instrumentalist.  She has created and produced numerous recording projects including More than a Dream.   Helping Kristi will be Meg Slivoskey.  Meg is a drummer, percussionist and a member of the Christian/African drumming troupe called Bembe Project.

Cindi wrote in her book When Women Long for Rest “God will bless us when we reorder our lives and clean up the clutter in our hearts as well as in our homes”

Hispanic Celebration in San Diego

What a night!  A large number of California Southern Baptist hispanics met at Shadow Mountain Community Church on Sunday night and had a big celebration.   The “Rondalla ‘Voceros de Cristo’” sang, I had not heard that type of music in a long, long time, it bought back memories of when I was young and in Mexico.   Dr. Edgar Lopez Bertrand from El Salvador brought a dynamic message.  You know it was good when the service was over and you thought “already“?  It was good to see friends that I had not seen in a while.

Who Surprised Who?

My husband had just left the hotel room, 5 minutes later I got a phone call from the front desk saying “We just wanted to make sure you were there, there is a surprise for you”  I said “Give me 5 minutes”  Five minutes later there is someone at the door knocking, I opened the door and standing there, was a very nice lady with a beautiful basket from the San Diego Baptist Association.

I don’t think she was from the hotel, I think she was from the Associational Office.  She took a look at me and I laughed, she handed me the basket – I said Thank you and she left.  Awkward.
