My friend Julie sent me this poem. I was humbled and cried.
BEAUTIFUL CHRISTIAN SISTER
By Maya Angelou
When I say…. ‘I am a Christian’ I’m not shouting ‘I’m clean living,’
I’m whispering ‘I was lost, Now I’m found and forgiven.’
When I say… ‘I am a Christian’ I don’t speak of this with pride.
I’m confessing that I stumble and need Christ to be my guide.
When I say… ‘I am a Christian’ I’m not trying to be strong.
I’m professing that I’m weak and need His strength to carry on.
When I say.. ‘I am a Christian’ I’m not bragging of success.
I’m admitting I have failed and need God to clean my mess.
When I say… ‘I am a Christian’ I’m not claiming to be perfect,
My flaws are far too visible, but God believes I am worth it.
When I say…. ‘I am a Christian’ I still feel the sting of pain…
I have my share of heartaches, so I call upon His name.
When I say… ‘I am a Christian’ I’m not holier than thou,
I’m just a simple sinner Who received God’s good grace, somehow!

So I just came across your blog today and what a great poem to come in on. This is great. Just wanted to say hi… – JG
I loved that!
Hi Carmen,
I took some time out to catch up on your blog and this poem was so beautiful and awe so humbling. I wish I could memorize it and share it with those who need to know this very same truth! I think I may try to do just that…but, I don’t have the memory I once did, but like I said I will try. What I can say is that I have printed this and posted it to my bulletin board in my office so that I can refer to it often.
Thank you, my friend, for this and for all that you do in your blog. It always lifts my spirit!
